My father, who lives in Pennsylvania, was in a car accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. As a resident of Florida and a recent grad school graduate who successfully landed her first "big girl job," I was JUST getting on my feet at the time when the accident occurred. I did not know how I was going to afford to make it home to support my father in his recovery, but I knew that I would do whatever it took to get there. Out of desperation, I began searching for available financial resources and discovered New Perspective Foundation. I figured it was a long shot I would be granted, but I submitted an application anyway. To my surprise, I received a voicemail from the foundation the following morning, informing me that they were going to help me get home to be with my father. Just like that. For the first time since my father's accident, there were no hurdles to jump over or barriers to overcome. There was simply a man, on the other end of the phone, letting me know that he was once in my father's shoes. This foundation did more than provide me with financial stability during an extremely unstable period of time, and it did more than allow me to go home to be with my father in the hospital. It was a turning point in my father's recovery in which I grew confident that, slowly but surely, we would get through this. Simply put, New Perspective Foundation brought an immense amount of hope to what once felt like a hopeless situation.  For that, I am extremely grateful. Thank you for everything you – didn't – have to do.

My 16-year-old daughter was involved in a dirt bike accident, resulting in T6/T7 spinal injury, leading to paralysis. Everything stopped. I left my job and focused on Hannah's recovery.  After a month in ICU at Maine Medical in Portland, we flew to Atlanta, Georgia. Hannah's older sister, Abbie, dropped everything to help and support us with whatever was needed for Hannah's rehabilitation—Which included college and work, to accompany not only Hannah and me, but to help with the youngest sibling, Gary, who is 2. Our journey took us from our home in Maine, to Atlanta, GA at the renowned Shepherd Center. There was no question, we were going to be by Hannah's side for whatever she needed. New Perspective Foundation was on a list of resources that were available for spinal cord injuries. I had no idea if we would be considered a candidate, but applied nonetheless. I promptly received a response the next day. New Perspective was able to help us with travel expenses. Being so far from home, this was an enormous financial relief and we were so grateful. Words cannot express our gratitude for the prompt assistance we received and the compassion that was offered. Our journey continues and we will embrace each day knowing there are certainly people that care and are willing to go the extra mile to provide when times are challenging. Thank you!

New Perspective gave us a light at the end of the tunnel during a very tragic moment in our lives. The Foundation helped with our expenses, so we could be with my brother when he was in the hospital. I was able to be a caregiver for him while my sister-in-law flew home to take care things there. My husband was able to help me by running errands and being a second pair of hands. It takes a family to heal, and New Perspective helped my family come together to be there for each other.

I am so grateful to New Perspective for allowing me the opportunity to spend time with my daughter at rehab and NOT have to worry about the price tag.  She was severely injured in Washington D.C. and we made the decision to have her rehab at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA.  I live in Pennsylvania and needed to be with my daughter. Shepherd Center allowed 30 free days of housing, but her rehab was much longer than that. I received information from Shepherd Center for some housing options and I reached out to New Perspective.  They are awesome!  Not only did they help me navigate a place to stay; but also gave some extremely valuable advice that I am still using today. In short, my most heartful thanks to this organization for allowing me to stay close to my daughter for the full extent of her initial recovery.

My son was involved in an auto accident and he was transported to Shepherd Center in Atlanta. However, I live in North Carolina. The travel and the stay away from home would have been quite costly. I was referred to New Perspective by my son’s caseworker. New Perspective is Heaven sent. It was because of this organization that I was able to visit on a regular basis. I didn’t have to worry about affording the cost of being by his side. New Perspective allowed us to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and my son’s birthday together.  This organization is also supportive in being a listening ear for families’ questions and concerns of the effects of lifestyle change for spinal injury patients and their family. I can’t thank this organization enough for all that it has done for myself and my son.

A huge THANK YOU to New Perspective Foundation for helping me stay with my brother through the hospital and rehab 8 hours away. He and I are 8 years apart. We annoyed each other so much as kids, but as we got older, we became best buds. When he had his accident, I was ready to quit my life and be there for him 100% of the time, but that was not possible. When they had to transfer him to a rehab facility 8 hours away, we both had a melt down. New Perspective Foundation helped both my family and I travel back and forth for almost 4 months while he was in rehabilitation. We were losing days upon days of work and pay, and that was the least of our worries given the situation, but it still was a concern. NPF helped make sure we could keep up with helping  my brother through rehab and not worry about surmounting expenses so that we could focus on his recovery. You cannot put a price on peace of mind when your entire world has fallen apart. NPF provided the support we needed to get us through the toughest time of our lives. Thank you to all who made this possible!

On October 14, 2017, My dad was in a single car accident in Montgomery, AL and he suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Since then, we’ve spent 11 days in an ICU in Montgomery, three months at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta and three months (and counting) at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital SCI Center in Tampa.  I’ve chosen to step away from my career in order to stay by my father’s side. Thank you to NPF for the financial assistance required to travel back and forth from the various hospitals to our home in Pensacola. I am extremely grateful I learned about NPF and appreciate all they do for SCI families in need. This foundation has been a huge blessing! They call to check-in on us and always offer great first-hand advice. Our family cannot thank you enough!

My son John sustained a spinal cord injury in a diving accident on Long Island New York, where we live, and was left paralyzed from the chest down. He is 25 years old and led a full and vibrant life! After being air lifted to Stony Brook hospital on Long Island, he underwent surgery to repair the C-6 disc in his neck. He was in the ICU there for 3 weeks and then air lifted again to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta where we have been for 2 months now; and will probably be here for another 2 months! The expenses one incurs in traveling back and forth from New York to Atlanta can be overwhelming! New Perspective Foundation was there for us to ease these burdens in helping with air, hotel, and gas expenses! They are truly a God send and we can’t thank them enough for their support, both emotionally and financially! God bless them for being there for us and caring so much!

You live your life never expecting the severity of an accident. When it does you become lost in a whirlwind of the unknown. Life changes and you become surrounded by things that are unfamiliar. You try your best to keep ahead of the rolling ball, but it always seems overwhelming. Never would I have anticipated my 22 year old daughter, Rebecca, to be in a wheelchair with a C-5 spinal cord injury. She is on a very long road to recovery and through it all is keeping a positive attitude. I want to take this opportunity to thank New Perspective Foundation for being able to help us get Rebecca's dad up to Atlanta so we could bring her home to Florida for continued therapy. She has been gone for close to 4 months and the foundation was gracious enough to provide the gas card we needed to alleviate some of our incurred expenses. It's amazing to know we are not alone on this new path and appreciate the kindness of New Perspective Foundation. I have enjoyed the comforting emails and phone calls and hope to continue our new friendship.

Our son sustained a C6/C7 neck injury from a shallow water diving accident in Tampa. After a weeklong stay at TGH, we transferred him to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for three months of inpatient and outpatient therapy. It was generous of Shepherd to house us for the first 30-days of the stay, but after that we needed to find another place to live. New Perspective Foundation was able to help us with our apartment rent so that my wife and I could both stay close to Shepherd and our son while he continued his recovery. Not only that, but they were generous enough to help us travel back and forth to Tampa so we could keep our jobs while also being with our son in Atlanta. We cannot thank you enough, New Perspective Foundation, for all that you have done for our family during this most difficult time.

There are not enough words to express the appreciation and gratitude that you have bestowed on our family in allowing us to stay at the Residence Inn. You made it possible for us to be able to stay close to Jake and care for him in a comfortable setting. He is now on his third month of therapy and hopefully will be placed in the day program soon. Due to the muscle flap surgery, he is still in a good deal of discomfort, but still presses on with PT, OT and whatever else is necessary for his well-being. God bless you all!

Before contacting New Perspective Foundation, I was down. I literally felt as if my world had come crashing in on me before my eyes. I knew I needed a listening ear but I didn't know whose ear or whose mouth would give me the inspiration and hope I needed to move forward. The conversations we had were nothing less than amazing. It made me feel like I had the inner strength to push me and my wife both forward. Often, I still find myself dwelling on some of the inspirational words they would say to me just to get through my down days. Even though my wife and I still have a ways to go and more obstacles to overcome, I still can not thank New Perspective Foundation enough for the words they provided me to help me through the days that have passed.

Thank you so much for the awesome job you do at promoting & helping families of spinal cord injuries. When Austin was doing therapy in Chicago, we thought we would have to shoulder the financial burden of traveling from Ohio and back every weekend. We truly appreciate the help with the driving expenses. It has been a true blessing just to be able to speak with you and have you relate to Austin. I know his challenges are livable because you have done it! We are finding many blessings on this new journey in Austin's life. Thank you for being one of them!

My oldest brother was riding his bicycle when a driver ran a red light at a crosswalk and hit him. He immediately knew something was terribly wrong, as he could not move his entire body. Joe's injuries were very severe, including 17 staples in his skull, a crushed eye socket, broken nose, a deep laceration on his arm, compound fracture of his tibia, and many scrapes and bruises. The worst of it all was a crushed C6 & C7 vertebrae, which left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair. I live in Kansas and Joe went to rehab in Colorado for six months before going home to Florida. This was not an easy trip to make. I heard about New Perspective Foundation and they have helped with my travel expenses. I'm so grateful to have had the help when I least expected it and needed it the most. They are wonderful people and this is truly an amazing organization. I cannot thank them enough! God bless all that they do!
